Experimental Cyanotype on Mixed Media | In-Person
In this workshop we will explore cyanotype, a photographic process that allows us to work directly with light to create images. Through preparing the photosensitive emulsion and experimenting on paper and fabric, we will investigate the possibilities of this technique and the ways it can expand into other surfaces.
Two sessions to get closer to this alternative photographic process, experiment with our own images, and explore the intersections between photography, materiality, and hands-on intervention.
In this course you will learn
- to prepare the photosensitive emulsion and make cyanotypes on paper,
- to carry the technique over to textile surfaces and explore its possibilities,
- to experiment with your own photographs, embroidery, and interventions on garments and other objects
What's included
The workshop includes all the materials needed for the practical work. You only need to bring your images printed as negatives on transparency film. Photographs will also be available to work with during the sessions.
The workshop is designed for anyone who wants to experiment with photography in a more material way, explore alternative processes, and discover new ways of working with their images. No previous experience with this technique is required.
